Fast Facts: Cyber PR

A surprising number of communication execs do not have external e-mail and their companies do not have a corporate intranet.

That's according to the "Corporate Communications Benchmark 1997" study - based on responses from communication execs at more than 700 public companies. The study was conducted by Edelman PR Worldwide, the Opinion Research Corp. and the Integrated Marketing Communications Department of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. Among the findings:

  • Nearly one-third of respondents do not have external e-mail capabilities;
  • More than one-half do not have a company intranet;
  • 21 percent do not have a Web site; and
  • 75 percent plan to complete a Web site during 1997.
