Myers to Chair PRSA Executive Committee

Gary Myers, executive VP of Morgan & Myers, Jefferson, Wis., has been elected chair of the Executive Committee of the Public Relations Society of America's Counselors Academy. Established in 1961, the academy works to advance PR (PRSA, 212/460-1450)

WIC Foundation Fills Trustee Slots

Twenty-one of 25 trustee positions for the new board of The Women In Communications Foundation, Clifton, Va., had been filled as of press time last week.

Members of the foundation, which recently became a private entity, are:

  • Maureen Bunyan, president of MCB Communications Inc., Washington, D.C. Bunyan is a broadcast journalist.
  • Karen Carnahan, foundation chair, principal of Carnahan, Smith & Gunter Inc., Portland, Ore. She is a consultant.
  • Sarah Coviello, president of Coviello & Associates, Washington, D.C.
  • Michele Y. Edwards, media relations manager and press secretary to the general superintendent of Detroit Public Schools.
  • Carol Fenstermacher, public information officer for the City of Portland's Bureau of Environmental Services.
  • Barbara D. Haas, foundation nominations chair, group VP for marketing and communications of Northern Indiana Public Service Co.

  • Bob Hopkins, president of the magazine Philanthropy in Texas. He has worked for two decades for health and educational institutions.
  • Camille Keith, VP for special marketing for Southwest Airlines. She is the only woman who has been inducted into the Texas Tech School of Mass Communications Hall of Fame.
  • Jane L. Kilburn, VP of corporate communications for Washington Energy Co. and its principal subsidiary, Washington Natural Gas Co., Seattle.
  • John S. Lore, president and CEO of the Sister of St. Joseph Health System, one of the nation's largest Catholic healthcare organizations.
  • Arthur Makar, senior director of Major and Planned Gifts for the American Lung Association's Asthma Research Initiative. His expertise lies in fund-raising.
  • Rebecca McClimans, president of Studio 2 Design, Washington, D.C. She has 20 years of design experience in corporate and association publishing.
  • Milton Murray, a retired fund-raising director for the Seventh-Day Adventist Church World Headquarters, Silver Spring, Md.
  • Douglas Ann Newsom, professor of journalism at Texas Christian University and an author of textbooks.
  • Achola Pala Okeyo, senior advisor on governance for the United Nations Development Fund for Women.
  • Marjorie Paxson, retired newspaper publisher who was the Gannett Co.'s fourth female publisher.
  • C. Sherman Severin, a corporate strategist for business planning and development.
  • Karen M. Stewart, president of Communications Counselors Inc., a PR firm based in Detroit.
  • Ann L. Taylor, foundation secretary, novelist and owner of Ann Taylor.communications, Vero Beach, Fla.
  • Diane Walden, president of W&L Marketing. She is a marketing and advertising professional with more than 15 years of experience.
  • A. Wendy Warner, senior editor and trainer for the New Jersey Education Association.

    Virgintino Elected President of N.Y. PRSA

    Michael R. Virgintino has been elected president of the New York Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. It is the largest chapter in the country, with more than 700 members. He replaces Alexander H. Stanton. (New York Chapter PRSA, 212/598-3650)
