JOURNALISM AS USUAL?

Communications experts using the Internet to get information for stories or other projects don't always remember to attribute the information they use to the source, according to a recently released Media Leaders Forum sponsored by the Louisiana State University's Manship School School of Mass Communiction.

Thirty-five of 63 media executives said they feel that reporters don't need permission to use, for instance, information accessed through online discussion groups but they should remember to include the origin of the information. (LSU, 504/388-2067)

Another survey probing communications found that daily newspapers hired fewer colege graduates to fill newsroom slots in 1995 than five years later, according to The Ohio State University. In 1995, 86 percent of the daily newspaper entry-level hires just out of college has mass communiation or journalism degrees. (Ohio State University, 614/292-6291
