‘Beautiful’ Profile Pages and Video Coming to Pinterest

Fresh from its victory over Twitter in driving referral traffic in the month of February, social media darling Pinterest, the image-centric collection and sharing site, announced that it will soon release a new profile page for users and make the sharing of content—including video—even easier.

At a SXSWi panel on March 13, Pinterest CEO and co-founder Ben Silbermann said the new profile page will be "more beautiful." The upgraded profile pages will help Pinsters find other sharers they might want to follow, and show pinning history, so that users can trace the individuals who are influencing the people you're following, reports FastCompany. "We wanted to make your profile very different from the profile you might have on Facebook or Twitter. We wanted to make a snapshot of what you're about," said Silbermann.

Pinterest will soon expand the types of things users can pin, including videos from Hulu, Vimeo and Netflix. Pinterest is also working on an API that will allow other companies to build apps that interact with the data on the site, according to FastCompany. Pinterest's first goal with the API is to expand its own site to other platforms, like the iPad.
