2014 PR People Awards: PR Student of the Year

Winner: Laura Plumb, Drake University

Laura Plumb, a student at Drake University's School of Journalism and Mass Communications, has not waited for the launch of her post-collegiate, professional career to become a PR leader. As president of Drake's PRSSA chapter, she led a group of PRSSA student volunteers on an educational awareness campaign for Iowa's Healthiest State Initiative. She also led a group of PRSSA student volunteers in a research effort to better understand Iowans' perceptions of lifelong learning.

Plumb received a 2013 PRIME Award from Central Iowa PRSA for developing a social media campaign for Amanda the Panda, a local nonprofit that provides grief counseling, and was selected to present a chapter development session at the 2014 PRSSA National Conference.

"We know that because of her work here, Laura is poised to continue her mission for solid strategic counsel and dedication to nonprofit and advocacy work immediately upon graduation," says Dr. Kelly B. Bruhn, APR, assistant professor, public relations at the School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
