Top Women in PR 2014: Deborah Buks

Deborah Buks, President, Ward

Once the youngest female VP in H&K’s history, Deborah cut her teeth at Y&R, Burson-Marsteller and then Vollmer. She built her firm, celebrating 25 years in 2015, into one of the most respected Houston PR firms. She led her team in producing twice the average US agency profits. She represents global public companies and high-growth, middle market businesses. She achieved this success despite  rare cancer diagnosis and several market fall-outs since the day she hung her shingle.

Deborah volunteered to lead the communications for Texas’ oldest and largest reform Jewish congregation. Working with peers she recruited for her pro bono team, she branded the campaign, “Be a Blessing.” A logo, brochure, robust website, social media and grassroots events produced the most congregant involvement the Temple staff had ever witnessed. Deborah’s results helped raise the most money of any single fundraiser in Temple history, enough to retire the debt, build a maintenance fund and seed an endowment.
