PR Pulse

We've previously questioned the wisdom of having a multitude of PR-related business awards handed out like so many hotcakes (see PR News, July 27). Now, for a bit of
substantiation, comes a new "Quick Poll" from the Dallas chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators, showing that business awards are, well, "worthless."

The poll, which was sent to 14 IABC chapters throughout the Southern region, garnered 46 responses. The question: "How worthwhile are local and national corporate awards, like
Tech Titans, Dallas 100 or Inc. 500?" Here are some highlights:

  • 54% said business awards are not valuable.
  • 15% said they believe business awards typically are rigged and worthless.
  • 2% said business awards are "extremely valuable," while 43% said they were "valuable."

The entire poll is available at http://www.dallasiabc.com.
