Profit Magazine

Address: 500 Oracle Parkway

Redwood Shores, CA 94065

Not all software technologies are equal - and editors at Profit plead with PR folks, "look at the magazine." If you have a client whose company uses applications written on an Oracle database platform, this magazine is published by Oracle Corporation four times a year and proves a good pitch opportunity. You'll get on the editors' good side if you distribute content-specific faxes to Profit, not mass mailings.

SECTIONS: FEATURES

Stories in this section are usually 20 pages, focusing on how companies are using Oracle Applications to increase profit.

The features section also has in-depth coverage of sales force or manufacturing issues.

EDITORS/LEAD TIME: Managing Editor, Kim Austin.

Has been with Profit for two years Fax: 650/633-2424 Phone: 650/506-3096

Editorial Director, Leslie Steere. Steere is a 15-year veteran of the computer industry Phone: 650/506-7000

Lead Time: rolling deadline

METHODS: Email is the best way to contact these editors. Like most journalists, they cringe at the "did you get my fax" song and dance.

Don't expect a call back on your faxes, as they will contact you if interested.

COMMENTS: Every editor has a different schedule: Austin is in from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Steere works at home and comes in from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Feuerhelm is a 9-5er. Therefore, if you're going to call, midday is best.

Send all new product releases for the magazine's "The Value Chain" section and ideas for the news section to Austin.

SECTIONS: CUSTOMER SPOTLIGHT

Features various companies which are using Oracle. Companies do not have to be Fortune 1,000.

The section covers interesting companies or companies doing interesting things with the applications. There is no specific criteria for the companies.

EDITORS/LEAD TIME: Senior Features Editor Jon Feuerhelm

Recently joined Profit after a nine-year stint with McGraw Hill. Phone: 650/506-7000

Lead Time: rolling deadline

METHODS: Same as above.

All email addresses listed below.

COMMENTS: For a customer profile, provide Feuerhelm with a company that will talk on the record.

The editors get many PR execs who say, "we have this client," but the client does not want to be discussed. When pitching a story, include all contact information.

Austin also can be contacted for this section, but says, "do not automatically expect coverage."
