COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT WITHIN DISCOVERY NETWORKS - BETHESDA. Position: Manager, Local Market Publicity
Reports To: Patricia Kollappallil, Sr. Manager, Trade and Business Publicity; phone: 301/771-4795; fax: 301/986-4826. Responsible for coordinating publicity efforts for Discovery network launches, promotions, partnerships and/or special events in local communities across the country. Specifically, responsible for writing and editing press materials, developing press lists and pitching local newspapers, radio and TV reporters. Additionally, responsible for managing the flow of information for local press campaigns between internal and external constituents, as well as working effectively with any outside public relations agencies/consultants. Other publicity duties as assigned include assisting with select Trade press opportunities relating to local market events and promotions.
Requirements: Three to four years of hands-on media relations experience, ideally with responsibility for local market campaign execution and management. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, to meet tight deadlines within budgetary constraints, and to handle multiple projects in a fast paced, ever-changing environment. Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills. Creative problem solver with a high level of initiative and resourcefulness who is also very much a team player. Broad knowledge of the television/cable business is preferred.
