If you're in the market for a Web name, Doctors.MD and DoctorsMD.com are taking bids.
Given the increasingly cluttered online healthcare environment with more than 15,000 Web sites, catchy domain names are hot commodities. An easy-to-find Web address is critical
to carving out a distinct online identity.
The domain names are expected to command a hefty price tag with a median evaluation of $75,000, according to GotCom, a domain name consulting firm that announced the sale last
week. So far, WebMD and a handful of other companies have expressed interest in the names. The auction can be viewed at http://www.afternic.com/~Doctors.MD and bids will be accepted through March 9.
Analysts are watching the sale as an indication of how much healthcare domain names are worth, says Thomas Rogers, GotCom's lead consultant. GotCom is handling the sale through
a partnership with AfterNic.com, a domain name trading exchange.
