DIY PR

The do-it-yourself trend is fine for weekend warriors. But we're waiting to see whether small- and medium-sized companies will flock to a dotcom that touts "paint-by-numbers
PR." PRMadeEasy.com, a subsidiary of Reputations.com, is offering an online arsenal of step-by-step guides to topics like:

  • Generating headline-grabbing releases
  • Avoiding being misquoted in the media
  • Creating a crisis communication plan
  • Talking to online media
  • Publicizing special events

A subscription to PRMadeEasy training materials is $8 a month ($99.95 per year), significantly less than the cost of hiring an agency or ramping up your internal staff. But
the promotional strategy is a little too reminiscent of the ads for those scary do-it-yourself home repair books. If we don't like Online Media, can we keep Plumbing
Repairs
and Deck Construction? (Reputations.com: Jeff Domansky, 604/689-8801)
