PR News 2016 Diversity in PR Awards: Individual

Winner: Ronald W. Wong, President and CEO, Imprenta Communications Groups

Ronald Wong epitomizes what it means to be a "Diversity Hero." He has committed his life to diversity and founded Imprenta Communications Group, an award-winning agency which specializes in reaching diverse audiences.

Imprenta's mission is to empower communities of color by giving them a voice and communicating to them in ways that respect their diversity and understand their culture. Imprenta impacts diversity in the work it does, the clients it serves, the staff it hires and the values it upholds. Wong served as Chair of the Asian Business Association, and Boardmember of the California Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce.

With a campaign goal of increasing PG&E's reach into Hispanic and Asian Pacific American communities, Wong was responsible for a $10 million media buy across print, digital and broadcast channels in multiple languages.

Wong led a team to develop and implement a community relations and advertising campaign composed of television spots, print ads, digital ads and direct mail pieces to reach communities of color. Knowing the diverse communities within PG&E’s service territory, Wong recommended developing a wide selection of material and collateral for media use, maximizing flexibility and creating synergistic opportunities in further placements.

The campaign has consisted of direct mail, online advertising, TV commercials, streaming video and newspaper placements featuring real families who live in the area and local employees who live and work in the area.
