PR Pulse

A recent survey by the Pew Internet & American Life Project shows that e-mail users are receiving slightly more spam (junk e-mail) than before, but they are minding it
less. While more than half of Internet users still consider spam to be a big pain, the ill effects of spam on e-mail habits have declined, which augurs well for PR execs who rely
more on electronic messaging for their campaigns/projects. Some other highlights from the study:

  • 35% of e-mail users say they have received unsolicited e-mail requesting personal financial information, a spamming technique known as "phishing."
  • 67% of e-mail users say spam has made being online unpleasant or annoying, compared with 77% a year ago.
  • 18- to- 29-year-olds traditionally have been the least bothered by spam.
