  • Dallas-based Williamson Printing Corp. earned nine Bennys --a first in Printing Industries of America history --at the 1996 PIA International Print Awards competition for the firm's self-promotion brochure and its 1995 annual report as well as several other smaller pieces.

Williamson, a full-service graphics arts operation, was founded in 1884 and is one of the largest printers in the Southwest. Overall, Williamson walked away with 112 awards at the Sept. 29 awards ceremony. (Williamson, 972/481-1946)

  • Black & Decker [BDK] received the highest honor given by FinancialWorld magazine when it was given a Gold Award Oct. 17 for excellence in its annual report. (Nichol & Co., 212/889-6401)
  • Carrie Martz was named Businesswomen of the Year at the Ninth Annual Athena Award luncheon sponsored by the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce Oct. 21. Martz, president The Martz Agency, an advertising and public relations company in Scottsdale, Ariz., was selected from a pool of 52 nominees. The award, which is named after the Greek goddess of wisdom, recognizes an individual who has demonstrated professional leadership and achievement and excellence in community services.   • Karakas VanSickle Ouellette Advertising & Public Relations, Portland, Ore., was given four Spotlight awards and two Merit awards by the Portland Metro Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.   • George Glazer was named the third winner of the Distinguished Service Award of the Radio and Television News Director Foundation at a ceremony held in Los Angeles Oct. 12.

Glazer, a senior managing director of Hill & Knowlton in New York, was acknowledged for being "well known in the broadcast and public relations industries as an expert in utilizing broadcast and satellite techniques of behalf of his clients," according to the organization. (RTNDA, 202/659-6510)
