Despite being around for only five months, Vine is already beating Instagram on Twitter. According to Topsy Analytics, the 6-second stop motion video app's 2.86 million shares on Twitter beat out the social photo sharing service's 2.17 million.

This is clearly a technology that savvy communications pros should know their way around, but the road to stellar PR Vine videos can be bumpy as the format evolves and best practices emerge.

Here are three tips for communicators on Vine strategy, courtesy of Tim Baker, VP of digital strategy at the MWW Group.

  • Use Vine to compliment your Facebook posts and Tweets, not replace them. Provide solid context with the Vine, and don't forget to include relevant hashtags.
  • Approach Vine the same way you would video. Consider the following three factors when shooting your Vine: imagery, audio and interesting subject matter.
