  • Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is yet another big name looking to stem losses with layoffs, with plans to cut roughly 7,200 jobs worldwide this year. Senior vice-president
of global communications John Perduyn says the company has no plans to downsize its communications staff, roughly 80 people worldwide. Close to 500 employees participated in an
early retirement program in January, part of efforts to soften the blow for workers.
  • The PRSA's new president and COO Catherine Bolton tells us the organization's communications will be handled jointly by John Elsasser and Lenore Oleveri. Elsasser will head up
the editorial side, and Oleveri is responsible for production and creative departments. Additionally, the PRSA has projected 2000 losses of between $650,000 and $700,000. PRSA's
losses are, in part, due to unpaid bills, taxes, and under-estimated profits from last October's World Congress.
  • A new study from The Conference Board reveals that leading companies better build their brands when they incorporate them into their company cultures. Study author David Dell
also pointed out that companies undergoing layoffs in the slowing economy would be better served to target PR campaigns at employees, both those leaving and those who stay. Look
for more coverage of Dell's study in upcoming issues of PRN.
