The 24/7 Newsroom

Check out the Jan. 7 issue for the launch of a new feature, the PR NEWS Web Browser. The Browser will take a detailed and objective look at one corporate press site. How would
your site stack up? Following are tips from journalists and communications pros on building an online press center that meets -- and exceeds -- the media's expectations.

  • Provide a prominent link to the site from your homepage and in emails to reporters. Also include a link to top news on the homepage.
  • Include contact information for top communications execs and headquarters info in a prominent spot. Never use generic [email protected]
    email addresses.
  • Update religiously -- don't allow time-sensitive features to get out of date.
  • Allow reporters to search press releases. Post releases on your site simultaneously with distribution through other sources. Also include news coverage.
  • Include high-resolution, downloadable photos or graphics -- or even streaming video.
  • Offer a link to the IR site or other financial data.
  • Keep in mind that while other audiences peruse your press center -- so it should include items useful to them --the media is your primary focus.
