PR Spotlight: Filmmaker Hits the Road to Promote Self

Some people will do anything to promote themselves in order to get a Hollywood contract. In the case of Ryan Dacko, "anything" involves running across the country from his

home in Syracuse, NY, to the heart of Tinseltown. And for each step of the trip, a 24/7 high-tech set-up will promote this happening.

Dacko, an independent filmmaker whose 2005 drama "And I Lived" scored awards and acclaim on the festival circuit, plans to race 2,950 miles (through 14 states) with the goal of

arriving in Hollywood to meet a major producer and present him with a three-movies-over-four-years business plan (the producer in question will be publicly identified by Dacko in

the course of his run).

Dacko dubs this endeavor "Plan 9 from Syracuse" (the title is a pun of the Ed Wood cult classic "Plan 9 from Outer Space") and he is set to put his best foot forward on August

15 with a cyber-centric operation tracking and reporting on his progress.

"We'll be using laptops, cells phones, GPS, mapping software and the Internet to document the entire run live from our Web site at http://www.plan9fromsyracuse.com," says Dacko, who will be accompanied on this journey by a small crew traveling via the comfort of

an automobile. "We will be making full use of blogs, photos and videos to attract a national buzz to this event. We are looking to create a dramatic and suspenseful three months

that will capture the attention of thousands in the sports and indie film world."

And in the event Dacko doesn't get that planned movie deal at the conclusion of his cross-country run, there's already a back-up plan in place: His entire adventure is being

filmed as a documentary for a planned 2007 release.

Is Dacko concerned about the physical challenge before him? "Yes!" he exclaims. "I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't."
