Pennsylvania Takes Stand On Family Violence

Pennsylvania's Attorney General's Office is asking the state's employers, religious and healthcare organizations to promote family violence prevention with community-specific recommendations. Members of a family violence task force issued a 300-page report titled a "Final Action Plan" that highlights community-based strategies for addressing family violence. The suggestions, culled from employers, the judiciary and experts in healthcare, law enforcement and schools, have national application.

Hospitals and other healthcare organizations are urged to:

  • Screen patients for family violence;
  • Provide continuing medical education credits on family violence;
  • Incorporate family violence training as part of the curricula for medical, nursing, allied health and behavioral health schools.
