TVOnline

120 Broadway, Suite 240, Box 201, Santa Monica, CA 90401

This January launch provides a taste of some of the publishing offshoots sure to be spawned by new or emerging technologies. TVOnline is devoted to the world of interactive TV. The monthly magazine is framed to capitalize on the growing number of people who have some form of interactive TV: that statistic now stands at 1.4 million, but is expected to grow to 11.5 million by 2000. This pub already boasts 250,000 subscribers. (Target audience: early 40s; HHI: 75,000+)

SECTION: Net Bets. This front-of-the book department is a monthly feature that covers "entertainment best bets with a twist." The premier issue, for example, hit on the 25th Annual People's Choice Awards, reminding readers to log onto cbs.com and fill out a ballot.

EDITORS/LEAD TIME: VP/Editor & Publisher, Phillip Swann, Fax: 310/899-1820, Phone: 305/899-0820, E-mail: [email protected]; Managing Editor, Stewart Schulze; E-mail: [email protected] (other contact information is same as above) Lead Time: Two months.

METHODS: Lest we have to advise you, e-mail's the way.

COMMENTS: This was a refreshing editorial bunch - they were easy to reach and no one gave us the rebuff. You don't have to go short-and-sweet with your pitch style and any information you provide should help build your case (background, contact numbers, demographics, trends). Forget the just nice-to-know.

SECTION: That's Interntainment. The "A" pitch list here includes movies, video, stage productions, books, etc. that promise an interactive slant. The debut issue provided quick synopses of Web pages and links that touched on the artsy and the irreverent.VP/Editor & Publisher

EDITORS/LEAD TIME: Phillip Swann, Fax: 310/899-1820, Phone: 305/899-0820, E-mail: [email protected]; Managing Editor, Stewart Schulze, E-mail: [email protected] (contact information is same as above) Lead Time: Two months.

METHODS: Again, e-mail.

COMMENTS: Swann was just brainstorming, but an example of what would be apropos is a new site chronicling the best comedy shows. To meet these folks' interest in one-of-a-kind online ventures, you had better be a well-traveled Web diva or guru, not just someone enjoying sporadic online sojourns or your pitch might fall flat.
