Gain Yardage with Football Fans

Touted as the first "football lifestyle" magazine, Joe Montana's In The Red Zone, hits the stands this month. While most articles will center around NFL player profiles and features, 30 percent of content will hinge on football players' other interests, like favorite products, workout advice and what to wear.

In the category of gizmos, gadgets and fashion sidelines, think Maxim, says Editorial Director Thomas Rausch. Pitch new products (e.g., a massaging recliner NFL fans can watch games in), men's fashion, and football-related scoops (such as new medical research), to Rausch. Trying to reach Montana is a waste of time, he says.

Content slated for the first issue includes gossip about NFL players, a beer glossary, a fashion spread of Joe Boxer underwear and football-related product reviews. Future issue themes will revolve around the football calendar. For example, the March issue will focus on NFL overtime and the April/May issue will focus on the draft.

According to Rausch, the magazine will appeal to a 24-39-year-old, mostly-male audience [anticipated to be 85 percent], but ITRZ staff will keep female fans in mind when developing story ideas.

Rausch prefers email pitches to [email protected]. Mail press releases and products to 68-70 Tuers Ave., Jersey City, NJ 07306.
