The new guidelines issued by the American Association of Health Plans (AAHP) ask that all of their members provide patients information on:
- How their doctors are paid, including any incentive arrangements they participate in.
- How their plan reviews and decides whether any particular treatment is necessary.
- How the plan decides which services or treatments will be covered.
- Whether costs of a specific prescription drug are covered by the plan.
- How the plan decides whether a proposed treatment is experimental and therefore subject to rejection.
