Docs Get Wired with Wireless Medical Info

A new physician-targeted wireless news program is making it possible for hospitals to keep their busy doctors in the know. The National Wholesale Druggists' Association Service Corp., operating under the name "HealthCom" and AirMedia Inc, an Internet service provider, have formed "The Healthcare Channel." The service customizes a wide range of medical, research and training information for doctors who don't have time to surf the Internet for this kind of healthcare news.

The channel uses AirMedia's nationwide wireless network and 24-hour broadcast news room and goes directly to physicians' and pharmacists' PC desktops without the need for an Internet connection.

The first phase of the launch, which is already underway, is targeting 25,000 high-prescribing physicians with Healthcom Internet antennas. Later this year, more than 200,000 antennas will be distributed to physicians and retail- and hospital-based pharmacists nationwide. The wireless antenna and AirMedia Live software can be installed as a Windows-based PC in doctors' offices or at home.
