With over 35 years at Business Wire, moving from the newsroom to the boardroom, Cathy Baron Tamraz oversees the company’s long-term strategic planning, internet strategy and global branding.
With a pioneering background in corporate news disclosure, she led the industry into providing equal access to material news for all market participants. Regulatory authorities, including the SEC, have sought her input as they develop and refine disclosure rules. In 2000, Tamraz was invited to meet with the SEC as they developed their landmark Regulation FD provisions. She was also the main architect in selling Business Wire to Berkshire Hathaway in 2006.
Tamraz was a driving force in the creation of BizWireTV and BizWireTV’s The Accelerator Report, two weekly video news shows that shine a light on trending stories that cross Business Wire’s distribution network. With the digital world growing and evolving, she wanted to create a platform for Business Wire that would utilize the latest tools available.
Opportunity struck when Tamraz first crossed paths with television icon Al Roker during the 2015 SXSW interactive festival in Austin, Texas. Tamraz and Roker identified the possibilities of combining forces to create video content focused on disruptive companies and the startup community by utilizing social media and digital analytics to highlight trending topics. Following a three month pilot season going into 2016, the show was renewed and continues to thrive with over 3 million video views and engagement on all the leading social platforms.
