2011 Nonprofit PR Awards: Volunteer & Member Communications

ASTM International Standardization News and ASTM eNews

The American Society for Testing and Materials has relied on its flagship publication, Standardization News, to inform their community since 1921. In 2007, the ASTM staff launched an internal study to gauge the effectiveness of Standardization News. The findings: The monthly had “filler” content that wasn’t useful to many members. In 2010 ASTM relaunched a revamped Standardization News as a bimonthly publication and created ASTM eNews, a monthly electronic newsletter—stocked with more immediate information such as meeting and training course dates and links to current events—to fill the monthly void. Today, the online English version garners nearly a quarter-million visitors annually; the Spanish and Chinese versions annually receive over 130,000 and 13,000 visitors, respectively.
