Community Relations

Boston College Provides Framework for Measuring CR

With community relations all the rage today, the Boston College Center for Corporate Community Relations provides a CR assessment checklist in its free report, "Community Relations: Unleashing the Power of Corporate Citizenship."

The top analysis tools are: surveying employee attitude; utilizing community reputation surveys; surveying customer satisfaction; tracking contribution on a matching/leverage ratio; calculating "free advertising space" from positive press; and tracking internal data through both formal and informal measurement.

The center also reports that organizations cite several reasons why CR adds value, including that it helps companies develop relationships with key external stakeholders that can influence business operations. (Center for Corporate Community Relations, 617/552-45450)

LBG to Conduct Community Relations Study

Next month, community relations and research firm LBG Associates, Arlington, Va., begins a benchmarking study to probe diversity and community relations issues tied to corporate philanthropy.

The firm plans to release to sponsors in August 1999 about 40 case studies that will serve as community relations paradigms. In the fall, the public also will have access to the report, which will extract hundreds of examples from everyday business practices. (LBG, 703/248-0226)

IR

Association Provides Free Analysis of IR Departments

Ever wonder how others perceive your company on the financial communications side? Regardless of whether you want this kind of information, it could soon land in your lap.

The Association for Investor Assistance (AIA) conducts free research on investor relations departments of publicly traded companies.

The main focus is a blind audit, which includes contacting the IR department of a particular company to determine its efficiency, speediness and overall style.

The AIA also seeks feedback from investors, and chases down this kind of detail on an ongoing basis.
