PR PULSE

The jones for e-mail is getting acute. According to new surveys by AOL and Opinion Research Corp., as reported by Emarketer, AOL users are starting to rely on e-mail just as
much as they do on the telephone to communicate. AOL subscribers spend about an hour a day on e-mail, and say they can't go more than two or three days without checking their e-
mail. And they check it everywhere: during a business meeting, on the beach or in the bathroom. A few other nuggets fom the survey:

  • 41% of Americans check e-mail first thing in the morning
  • 18% check e-mail right after dinner
  • 14% check e-mail right when they get home from work
  • 14% check e-mail right before they go to bed
  • 40% of e-mail users have checked their e-mail in the middle of the night
