  • Sleepless in Seattle? King County, Wash., businessman Juan Mayans has launched a monthly lifestyle magazine, called Persona. The pub features a blend of celebrity
    coverage, financial advice, recipes and film reviews, all with a Latino bent, with the copy in English. Persona will be distributed to about 500 Latin-goods stores in the Seattle
    area.
  • Catalina is prepping for the 2004 launch of Catalina en Espanol. The publication will have an initial circulation of 60,000 and be distributed at newsstands nationwide.
    Publishers say the Spanish version of the magazine will help them reach more Latinas in the Hispanic community, now 20-million strong.
  • At one time, Brooklyn was considered the center of the universe. No more. But it's still the biggest, most-populated borough in New York City. And now it's got its own
    magazine, called BKLYN. The regional publication, a quarterly, is sponsored by the Heart of Brooklyn, a consortium comprised of six central area institutions: the Brooklyn Museum
    of Art; Brooklyn Botanic Garden; Prospect Park Alliance; Prospect Park Zoo; The Brooklyn Public Library and the Brooklyn Children's Museum.
  • LPI Media, which publishes gay-centric magazines Out and The Advocate, is launching The Out Traveler in October. The publication is focused on helping gay travelers branch
    out from well-known, gay-friendly resorts like Palm Springs, Cali. and Provincetown, Mass. The publication, with an initial circulation of 165,000, will be polybagged with the
    October issue of Out.
  • In a similar publishing vein, Genre, a popular gay men's lifestyle magazine, has announced its moving its editorial office to New York City from Los Angeles.
  • Jumping on one of the hottest trends in newspaper publishing, The Tribune Co. announced last week it will launch a free daily tabloid in New York sometime in the fourth
    quarter. Called amNewYork, the tabloid targets the advertising coveted 18- to 34-year-old crowd, which doesn't respond to traditional newspapers. The Tribune Co. also publishes
    similar newspapers in Chicago (RedEye) and Boston (Boston Metro).
