Media Metrics

Perhaps it's the close proximity to the gyrations of the Standard & Poor's indices, the New York Stock Exchange and other major financial markets (not to mention
analysis/paralysis about the prognostications of Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan). But folks in the northeast are not as bullish on the economy as people who live in southern markets.

Per Delahaye, among the top five markets (indexed results) with people who think the economy will be better off six months from now, four are in the South and the fifth -- Las Vegas --
well, confidence there is a birthright.

But while optimism about the future of the economy varies from one region to the next, advertisers are, in the current climate, down altogether on the biz books.

Most of the top financial publications (see chart) have been to various degrees suffering a loss of ad pages lately, including the holy trinity of business magazines: BusinessWeek,
Forbes and Fortune.

Still, ad pages for the business books tend to be cyclical, and the (current) downward trend should in no way be considered a deterrent to PR execs to try and get coverage of their companies in
any one of those legacy titles, all of which have ample circulation and reputations to match.
