Corporate Execs In Poor Health

A growing number of corporate executives are leading unhealthy lifestyles and flirting dangerously with heart disease, according to a study presented last month at the
Corporate Health Summit 2000 conference in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The Rippe Health Assessment Study of Senior Executives, led by Dr. James Rippe, associate professor of medicine
at Tufts University School of Medicine, found that 73% of the executives surveyed were not active enough and 40% were obese.

The findings suggest that corporate America needs more targeted information on how to improve eating habits, become more active and manage their weight.

Among the obese executives surveyed:

  • all of them had at least one other risk factor for cardiovascular disease;
  • 86% have two other risk factors; and
  • 60% have at least three other risk factors.

The study was based on the clinical results of 200 professionals, nearly three-fourths of whom were Fortune 500 executives. They were treated at the Rippe Health Assessment at
Celebration Health, a central Florida facility.
