Top Women in PR: Marian Salzman

Marian Salzman, CEO, Havas PR North America

Marian led the Havas PR team that partnered with the United Nations Foundation to help change the narrative around science and climate change. She guided the creation of the global consortium that supported the release of the foundation's four-phase report in 10 countries through late 2014 to ensure that consistent, scientifically based (yet understandable) messaging reached target audiences. Her team put climate change in the news around the world by developing media curricula and implementing them with 150-plus scientists worldwide, then connecting the scientists as local resources to comment about the report's phases. The agencies also launched Climasphere.org, a first-of-its-kind online resource designed for climate change influencers. Through the four phases, the campaign recorded 25 billion media impressions worldwide, with positive/neutral on-message coverage of 85 percent to 97 percent. Plus, more than 100 organizations joined with the consortium to present a united communications strategy. Through global reactions—like this tweet from the World Bank president: "[This] report confirms that #climatechange is more certain than ever"—Marian's team helped shift the conversation on this very important topic.
