2015 PR People Awards: Internal Communicator of the Year

Winner: Amy Haran, USANA Health Sciences, Executive Director of Communications

With more than 13 years of diverse experience, including leading creative and communication teams and collaborating with international markets, Amy Haran understands the importance of corporate and international communications in ensuring a company like USANA Health Sciences succeeds.

In her current role as Executive Director of Communications, Haran is responsible for managing global communications for an internal audience of approximately 1,300 employees and 200,000 independent distributors and customers. She works closely with USANA staff in 18 markets, fostering cross-department communications and planning, and has worked closely with executives to write speeches, scripts, internal communications, public presentations, and a New York Times best-selling book.

Haran also directs a talented communication team, which maintains an extensive distributor website and training site, a public website and online shopping cart, e-mail communications platform, a political action website, and global employee communications in 18 markets and eight languages.

Most recently, Haran worked cross-functionally with IT, marketing, and creative to overhaul USANA’s extensive distributor website, which receives more than 1 million hits each day. She oversaw the redesign of distributor communications on the site, including the creation of simplified navigation, new push alerts, extensive training materials, and a news archive.

She has also played an integral role in communicating USANA’s recent partnership with The Dr. Oz Show with associates and employees when USANA joined the core of The Dr. Oz Show's trusted partners and sponsors. Haran and her team helped develop and increase USANA brand awareness through the partnership to reach the general public, employees and associates through internal communications, social media, traditional media, marketing tools and TV segments on The Dr. Oz Show through both USANA and Dr. Oz channels.

Haran also played a key role in a groundbreaking project for USANA—major enhancements to the company’s distributor compensation plan—providing internal support and writing a plan that the entire company used for training, programming and marketing plans.
