The Corporate Affairs team at Astellas is fortunate to have a direct line of communication to Jeff Winton, the senior vice president of Corporate Affairs and chief communications officer, reporting directly to the chief executive officer for the Americas. Astellas launched StarLIFE Family Care Solutions in October 2014 to enhance traditional child and elder care offerings and to address its employees’ broader needs. StarLIFE includes child and elder care, legal aid and identity theft assistance for the entire family, including parents and in-laws, college coaching and many other benefits.

StarLIFE also helps employees to address their daily child and pet care responsibilities and to plan for the future. The program provides a range of child and pet care related resources to help working parents balance their home lives and careers, including nanny, pet sitting and au pair search services, support for special needs children , adoption support, before- and after-school childcare and back-up childcare support when regular child care services fall through.

In addition, employees have access to Sittercity, the leading web-based network of more than two million pre-screened caregivers nationwide plus discounted child-care across the street from the headquarters for the Americas in Northbrook, IL. For employees with high-school-aged children transitioning to college, StarLIFE provides college coaches to assist in choosing the right school, with the application process, especially with guidance on the personal essay, and to clarify the financial options for their future education.

Additionally, Astellas established seven employee resource groups (ERGs) to create avenues for employees to provide business insights and to develop thriving and inclusive support communities within the organization under the StarINCLUSION program.
