Top Women in PR 2014: Liz Kaplow

Liz Kaplow, President and CEO, Kaplow Communications

Liz Kaplow is a successful entrepreneur, a trusted advisor to corporate executives and a passionate advocate for the advancement of women. As president of New York Women in Communications (2013-2014), she focused on programming that provided support for the advancement of women at every stage of their careers and helped members navigate the changing landscape of the industry. The original brand storyteller, Liz founded Kaplow Communications in 1991 and built it into an agency serving a veritable “who’s who” of consumer brands — Target, Skype, Avon and Timex.

Skype was looking for a fresh way to demonstrate its mission of helping people make meaningful connections. This initiative partnered Skype with O, The Oprah Magazine on a campaign to battle loneliness, inspired by research by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, which found that 60 million Americans suffer from loneliness. Liz was a key strategist for the multi platform “Just Say Hello” campaign. The campaign centerpiece was a two-minute video featuring “hellos” from celebrities, including Ellen DeGeneres, Seth Rogen, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Jennifer Aniston and Garth Brooks. With commentary by Dr. Gupta, Gayle King and Oprah Winfrey, the campaign was a resounding success, garnering nearly 369 million media impressions. Coverage underscored Skype as the enabler of renewed relationships with friends and family. What’s more, the video was recognized as a top performer on both Oprah’s and Skype’s channels.
