Dr. Howard Benedikt, a specialist in chiropractic and nutritional therapy, airs his radio show, "Alternatives," twice a week on WEVD 1050 AM in New York City and the tri-state area: Thurs. at 11 a.m. and Friday at 3 p.m. The show discusses alternative medicine, health, diet and nutrition, and introduces new products and books. Dr. Benedikt frequently interviews clinicians, researchers, authors and teachers who help to answer questions about the use of vitamins, minerals and herbal remedies. We were able to reach Dr. Benedikt directly at his private practice, and he was happy to return our call immediately to talk about what peaks his interest and what turns him off.

SECTIONS: Alternatives

Although this show is about alternative medine, diet and nutrition, Benedikt says it's more about concepts and ideas for people to take charge of their own health, not to sit back and wait for their health to deteriorate. His mission is to educate the public about which healing methods work and which ones don't - what's real and what's not.

PRODUCER/LEADTIME/METHODS:

COMMENTS:

Benedikt looks for unique ideas, yet those that are firmly validated. Whatever is discussed, he says is a direct reflection of him, so he doesn't want to expose his audience to something that's "a fly-by-night craze or topic of the month" - there must be a scienctific explanation behind what you're promoting. For example, if it's a product or book, this will be something his audience may be interested in making part of their libraries. You must think to yourself, "Will this be something that [Dr. Benedikt] will use in his practice?"

Benedikt looks for speakers who have something very powerful to say to the audienc: it's not just about selling a product or doing an infomercial. He wants his speakers to give good information to people about products they would consider using for themselves.
