2012 Top Places to Work in PR: Counterpart International Inc.

Counterpart International Inc.

The communications department at Counterpart International consists of just two full-time staffers, plus several consultants. With such a small team—and 23 country programs to support—it must delegate and share tasks. And it’s the sharing of responsibilities that makes Counterpart such an ideal workplace for professional growth.

The department works very closely with senior management. It has weekly meetings with the president and CEO on current projects, as well as frequent brainstorming sessions where it hashes out the latest fundraising idea or content for the next external newsletter.

And though a nonprofit like Counterpart may be unable to offer soaring salaries, the benefits are first class. In addition to health insurance and a 403b fund, the organization offers three lifestyle benefits (employees are allowed to choose one): gym membership, a $125 public transportation benefit, or paid parking in the building's garage.

Employees earn 15 days of leave per year during the first three years of employment, and 20 days per year during years 4 through 6. This increases to 25 days per year thereafter.
