For PR execs in Nashville this week for the PRSA conference (and for trivia buffs in general), we've provided you some Music City facts:

  • Nashville was settled in 1779 and became the permanent state capital in 1843.
  • The city covers 533 square miles.
  • Nashville employment grew by 2.8 percent in 1996, one of the strongest rates of any large U.S. city.
  • Home sales in the Nashville area are up 2.4 percent in the first half of 1997, breaking consecutive records for the previous six years.
  • 1,102,079 people live in its eight counties: Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Robertson, Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson and Wilson
  • The PRSA Nashville Chapter now has 145 members, a 15 percent jump over last year's membership
  • The local Yellow Pages lists 57 businesses defined as PR counselor firms.
  • Andrew Jackson and James K. Polk were the 7th and 11th residents, respectively, who lived in the Nashville area.
  • President Roosevelt, after drinking a cup of coffee in Nashville, coined "good to the last drop."
