Chris O’Neil assumed the duties of Chief of Media Relations at the National Transportation Safety Board in January 2016 following his tenure as the Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Office of Public Affairs, at U.S. Customs and Border Protection. O’Neil has nearly 30 years of public affairs experience gained through full-time and collateral-duty public affairs positions in both government and military public affairs offices. His military public affairs positions include assignments to Coast Guard Atlantic Area Public Affairs, New York, New York; 7th Coast Guard District Public Affairs, Miami, Florida, Coast Guard Chief of Media Relations, Coast Guard Headquarters, and Coast Guard Chief of Strategic Communication, Coast Guard Headquarters. O’Neil is the president elect of the National Association of Government Communicators and holds a Master’s in Public Relations from Boston University and a Bachelor’s in Communication form Charter Oak State College, and is a Defense Information School Alumni. He was named one of PR News' Data Dynamos at the 2018 Measurement Conference.
