2016 Digital PR Awards: Employee Communications Online

Winner: SAP North America - SAP Digital Business Challenge

The objective of this effort was to inspire over 19,000 employees across the SAP North America region to learn and tell the story of SAP’s Digital Business strategy, driving home the essence and importance of the company’s comprehensive digital business transformation.

In late 2015 SAP introduced a global strategy to address the digital world of business. While continuing its mission to help the world run better, SAP turned its focus toward helping its customers transform their businesses to address the demands of today’s digital economy. Ensuring SAP employees understood and could tell this digital business story would be vital to its success.

The Digital Business Challenge asked employees to submit a video of themselves telling the SAP digital business story in five minutes or less. Employees uploaded their video entries to SAP Jam, an internal social networking platform, where employees could view, “like” and comment on each others’ videos. Four submissions were selected as contest winners. The top two videos were automatic winners, and a panel of executive-level judges selected the remaining two winners.

Overall employee engagement, tracked through video views, was the top success metric. SAP set a goal of 5,000 views, or approximately 25% of its audience, and blew away that goal with 30,000 views on SAP Jam, drawing the attention of SAP employees and executives—both within the region and globally. The campaign won more than 10,500 votes from employees who had watched the video entries and learned about SAP digital strategy.
