2016 PR People Awards: Public Affairs Professional of the Year

Winner: John Guilfoil, Principal, John Guilfoil Public Relations

JGPR’s clients are on the clock 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Because of this, John Guilfoil is often on-site with a client at 3 a.m., or altering his holiday plans for a meeting.

When a crisis hits a city or town, police or fire department, Guilfoil makes sure he is on the scene to represent them and assist with media inquiries.

After a deadly stabbing in Taunton, Mass., Guilfoil stepped in to work with the fire department to improve their communications system, which had been criticized during the incident.

Prior to the Taunton stabbing, John Guilfoil Public Relations did not have the Taunton Fire Department as a client. However, when he heard the news, and the backlash the department was facing for not properly keeping residents up-to-date on the circumstances, Guilfoil knew he needed to offer his services, free of charge, to the Taunton Fire Chief.

In just a couple of short years, Guilfoil has built a reputation as a PR professional who truly cares about the industry he represents, and will go above and beyond to assist police and fire departments if they find themselves in a bind. Sometimes, all it takes is a call and a few minutes of advice, while other times, it's in-person consultation, or multi-week projects that include assisting organizations with positively building their brand.
