Say What?

Call it old-fashioned thinking, but the headline of a press release should have something to do with the copy that follows it. Obviously the people at Carl Thompson
Associates disagree with this notion.

Their Feb. 7 press release headlined "Carl Thompson Associates Completes Annual Reports," hardly mentions the reports in the body of the release, except to say that the agency
"provided graphic design and editorial assistance for both reports."

Instead, the announcement, concerning companies Pancho's Mexican Buffet and Isco Inc., reads like something a tour guide would spout-off: "Pancho's is the only publicly held
company offering all-you-can-eat Mexican food in a buffet-style format," or "Isco is a leading producer of wastewater samplers and open channel flow measuring devices."

To make matters worse the agency touts itself as being "a full-service investor relations firm" at the bottom of the release, yet it fails to disseminate any useful investment
information. Where's the earnings per share? The P&E ratio? The dividend report? Where's the executive summary on the findings that the agency completed? The release even
fails to include a phone number for investors, except the general one to the agency.

But then again this is a booming economy. Maybe relying on financials to make investment decisions is as old-fashioned as matching a headline to its text.
