Perception is Everything

Seventy-eight percent of U.S. adults believe there is bias in the news media, and that powerful people or organizations can influence a newspaper to "spike or spin" a story, according to the Journalism Credibility Project, a multi-year study conducted by the American Society of Newspaper Editors. Among the groups suspected to exert influence on news decisions: politicians, government officials, big business and wealthy individuals. Half of Americans believe advertisers' interests affect news coverage. (www.asne.org)
