Editor's Note: It's worth your while to put this show on your PR target list for several reasons: it's not the typical morning talk show brimming with all kinds of human faux pas and bad-taste scenarios; this show has become one of the most-watched morning programs; and TV allows you to reach a broader audience. Recall that the Tickle Me Elmo frenzy began with a mention by Rosie, who was tickled by the doll (See PR NEWS, 3/10/97 and 3/17/97).

DAYS TO AVOID
Even though these staffers (who face several deadlines a day) are experts at juggling multiple projects, they're not easy to track down or super receptive since they're pitched to constantly.
METHODS These bookers want to receive a pitch by fax or by mail. It's rare that you'll be able to speak with anyone working on the show. Of all the media outlets we've spoken to, this one was one of the toughest to penetrate. It's virtually impossible to get to a producer since the bookers are the ones who field queries and pursue show topics and leads.
COMMENTS Because producing a daily TV program that airs nationally can create a high-stress environment, you want to make sure that the pitch you're attempting is worth these folks' time. Bookers and producers can work as little as several days in advance on a show or a month ahead, but depending on industry buzz and what's hot news, show schedules shift frequently. We were told that it's unrealistic to expect a one-day-turnaround on any idea that's pitched.
TOPIC(S) Human Interest

Here's your chance to pitch a story that can turn an average Joe into an overnight success.

Once again, fax or mail a pitch on any day but remember deadlines are always looming on the horizon.
METHODS If you're pitching a story with a features or human-interest angle, it's likely you'll want to mail the plug since you may want to expand on the idea with accompanying materials.
COMMENTS The show doesn't want "long pitches" and generally they don't want to have to deal with lots of calls. They want ideas which are short and concise.
