The skinny on getting placement for your organization

NPR's blend of entertainment and hard news, both national and international, commands an exceptional pitch performance from PR, but beware: these editors drive a tough bargain and rarely take kindly to phone calls. Faxes are best, and follow-up calls should always be made in the morning.

For NPR's flagship show, "All Thing Considered," which airs 4-8 p.m. weekdays, fax or send regular mail to editorial assistants Carol Klinger and Julia Redpath. The fax for this show is 202/414-2110. Producers do not want PR folks contacting them. Recent shows include, "What To Do About Kosovo?" and a segment from reporter Michele Kelemen from Moscow about the Russian newspaper Kommersant, a business daily.

Ditto for NPR's "Morning Edition." Send faxes (202/414-3329) or snail mail addressed to "Morning Edition" with a brief pitch statement. Recently, NPR reporter Debbie Elliott reported from stops on a trip through several states, during which she talked to people about why they did or did not vote.
