A Study From The Wonderful World of Oz

A survey of Web sites for the nation's Top 20 PR and Top 20 investor relations firms' concludes that most sites function as little more than online capability brochures and offer little value to existing clients, according to Emerald City Productions, a New York new media shop.

Emerald City's team checked out competitor Web sites in preparation of a site redesign for its client, KCSA Public Relations Worldwide.

"We were shocked to discover that the vast majority of [competitor sites] are nothing more than 'sell-your-firm brochures,'" says Emerald City President Douglas Blecher.

While Blecher's firm deserves credit for leveraging its client's Web capabilities (KCSA.com now offers up-to-the-minute financial news, links to client news releases and other client-oriented benefits), we enjoyed the irony of Emerald City's study - obviously intended, to some degree, as a "sell-your-firm" tactic.
