Fortune's 2005 list of the "100 Fastest-Growing Companies" hits newsstands this week. While the technology sector still is well-represented on the list, energy is
starting to burn things up; 19 oil companies are among this year's picks. Housing also is hot. To compute the rankings, Fortune uses data from Zacks Investment Research,
giving equal weight to three factors: profit, sales growth (for three years through the first quarter of 2005) and three-year total return (through June). Here are the Top 10 of
the Top 100 fastest-growing companies and the space they're in:
- Yahoo! (Internet search engine)
- Compucredit (branded credit cards)
- Ceradyne (high-tech ceramics)
- Vineyard National Bancorp (bank)
- Laserscope (medical laser systems)
- KOS Pharmaceuticals (drug maker)
- ASV (farming, construction equipment)
- Sandisk (digital memory cards)
- Imergent (Web services for small businesses)
- Clinical Data (medical equipment)
