Our Own Reading List

The editors at PR NEWS took a look at their own favorite Web sites. "I tend to bookmark stuff that's new to me that I want to revisit at some point," says senior editor
Jenny Sullivan, who estimates she has hundreds of bookmarks in place. Among the sites she visits each week: Nexis.com, Hoovers.com, Inside.com and, of course, our own
PRandMarketing.com. Sullivan provides a itemized breakdown of her surfing habits (it does add up to 100%):

  • 10% general business publications
  • 10% general news outlets
  • 10% research firms
  • 10% media trade portals
  • 15% agency Web sites
  • 20% corporate Web sites
  • 5% competitor publications
  • 5% search engines
  • 5% PR trade associations
  • 5% newswires
  • 5% fun and/or stupid stuff

By comparison, other staffers have 30 to 40 sites bookmarked, though their breakdown is very similar. One site that editor Patience Wait uses almost every day is http://www.555-1212.com. Area codes have changed so much, she uses it as a handy area code reference to find out what state a contact is
in.
