Hitting the Airwaves. Expanding their reach, USA Today and Gannett plan to launch USA Today Live, a broadcast and Internet effort, this summer. The new product will have
its own staff that will produce prepackaged segments based on USA Today content for air over Gannett television stations. Dick Moore will oversee the production as managing
editor starting Feb. 28, but go through USA Today newspaper contacts (PRN, Jan. 24) to pitch stories that might make it to the air. 703/276-3400.

Fresh Oranges. The Orange County Register is creating a series of new magazines covering specific areas of community interest, including sports and lifestyles. The first
titles - one on golf, one on home design and furnishing - will debut in July, says Chris Schulz, publisher and COO for the new magazine division. A travel magazine will be up
next, followed by a lifestyle publication. Schulz plans to hire an editor-in-chief as soon as next week, but he's happy to receive pitches at 714/796-7622 or [email protected].
