Media Strategy

Journalism will never be the same. The Web has changed the dynamics of media relations for better and for worse. Peeved about the way you've been covered in the digital
world? Some tips on clarifying and rebutting inaccuracies in online reporting, courtesy of Andrew Gilman at CommCore Consulting Group in DC:

There are three ways a company can respond to a Web story that it doesn't like.

1. Do nothing. You might draw attention to a story that might already be fading.

2. Don't rebut the story. Add to it. Often, when a negative story appears, readers will hit the maligned company's home page to look for further information. Leverage this
opportunity to draw traffic to your site. Make it easy for readers to find your site and the relevant link. You can offer more context to the news story by posting the full text
of statements, news releases, relevant background information and explanations.

3. Rebut the story. If you choose this route, try to avoid blaming the journalist or your staff. Indicate that a misunderstanding occurred. Then present the correct figures
or information.
