Reaching the country's growing Latin and Hispanic American community is becoming a top priority for healthcare communicators. A new Web site, GraciasDoctor.com, is targeting this influential group with a wide range of health information offered in Spanish, Portuguese and English. The site, updated daily with original content in the key areas of family health, cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular health, is customized to address the cultural needs of its Latin and Hispanic audience. Its specific target audience is doctors, patients and students.

Launched on Jan. 11 with little publicity, the site exceeded expectations by generating 11,000 page views on the first day and 27,000 page views on the second day. So far, 2,000 videos featured on the site have been downloaded.

In addition to being highly pitchable, the site allows hospitals to become charter members by sponsoring key sections. John Hopkins Hospital is its first charter member. Other marketing tools offered on the site include educational videos, chat sessions and exposure in Latin America, Spain and Brazil.
